Yes and no. If your ceiling does not contain asbestos you can spray your ceiling with latex paint although it is not usually recommended. More information can be found on our guide to painting acoustic ceilings. If your ceiling does contain asbestos you may be prohibited by law from painting in some juristicions. The theroy is that painting the ceiling causes asbestos fibers to become airborne although some experts advise to paint the ceiling because they claim it encapsulates the asbestos fibers. It seems that if you do have a ceiling with asbestos the experts are split on recommending for or against painting.
